Minnesota has adopted some important new changes to the work comp laws for 2013. Some of the key changes are that the maximum compensation rate for injured workers will increase from $850/week to 102% of the statewide average weekly wage. The statewide average weekly wage in Minnesota between October 2012 to September 2013 is $916/week. Therefore, this should result in a substantial increase in compensation for many injured workers. Additionally, Minnesota will now recognize post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a covered injury if it is diagnosed by a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist, without any physical injury. These are major positive developments in the workers' compensation law in Minnesota which should benefit workers injured on the job.
